New Eagle River Segment

The long awaited Eagle River Segment is the next logical phase of the larger plan to develop a continuous off road linkage between Three Lakes and Eagle River. The trail will be approximately 2.75 miles long, 12 feet wide and surfaced with crushed limestone. It will begin at the historic CNW Train Depot, located in the heart of the Eagle River shopping district and follow the established snowmobile trail south for about 1.5 miles. From there the trail will meander south through woodlands and wetlands on an exciting new pathway. The segment will feature a picturesque boardwalk and bridge crossing Mud Creek leading to an expanse of forested upland and a secluded meadow – a perfect picnic destination for bikers and walkers. The segment terminates near Section 9 Road, just 1.25 miles from the existing Three Eagle Trail.

Estimated Cost & Funding

The estimated total project cost will be $620,000. The Three Eagle Trail Foundation will be counting on community volunteers to donate money,

services, equipment and materials to complete this new trail project. Because the Three Eagle Trail Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation, monetary donations are tax deductible.

Economic Development

Just as the Three Lakes tourist economy has benefitted substantially from visitor usage of the existing trail, The Eagle River Segment will replicate this success in a city with higher resident and visitor populations. This new trail segment will be a major enhancement to tourism and its associated economic development. It advances the effort to connect the area’s vital tourism based communities by way of a very attractive, safe and scenic route. It furthers the ongoing efforts to make Vilas and Oneida Counties “go-to” destinations for silent sport recreation while encouraging utilization of alternative transportation facilities.
